Marketta Briscoe's smile and laughter will stop you in your tracks, but it's her ambition that will floor you. She’s got her eye on the prize of becoming a doctor and is attending classes at Community College of Denver and interning in the emergency room at Denver Health. Her future wasn't always so bright. Marketta had her fair share of dark times and her story is that much more impressive considering. When she was a freshman in high school, Marketta suffered the loss of three family members – including both of her brothers – all in one year. These tragedies would cause most of us to hit rock bottom, but Marketta, being the perseverant soul she is, hunkered down and realized the power within her to rise up.
